7 Reasons you didn’t hear back from Hiring Manager

There can be a lot of reasons why you haven’t heard from the hiring manager after applying for a job or even after interviewing. Not knowing where you stand can be difficult, It can be challenging to decide whether you should still keep applying for more jobs or wait until you get a proper answer about the position applied for. When you’re in that situation where you clueless about what’s going on with the role, it would be best to keep your search on until you have a definite offer.

While its appreciable to notify candidates about their application status, companies are not required to do so mainly because they lack the resources and time to follow up with every candidate, especially when there is a large pool of applicants for a job. In that case, only the people the company wants to interview will likely be notified.

Some of the reasons you might have not heard back from the hiring managers are listed below:

1. You are underqualified:
If you don’t have the credentials the company is looking for, you probably won’t be considered for the job. Employers tend to take chance on enthusiastic applicants that have the potential to surprise with innovative approaches to problems that have been stumping the rest of the team but for some critical roles they are looking for the right experience and skills

2. Your experience doesn’t match the role:
You could have the qualifications, but companies want to know that you have successfully performed the job duties in the past. Nevertheless experts agree that even if you don’t have the required number of years of experience, it is still worth applying. Of course within a certain range, If the company is looking for 8 years of experience and you have two, don’t waste both of yours’s time

3. Your resume is not well formatted:
A well-formatted resume is a must while applying for a job, the resume speaks to the hiring manager before you do. Making a good first impression is done through the resume, if your resume fails to showcase your skills, experience and credentials in a manner that is simple and easy for the employer to comprehend, you could knock yourself out of contention

4. You didn’t submit the required documents.
If a job application asks for a cover letter, writing samples, references, or any other material to support your application, you need to submit it when you apply. Ignoring company guidelines while applying is usually the bad start that you need to avoid

5. The company hired someone else.
It can be that the position you applied for had already been filled but the company has not removed the job listing. Sometimes companies post job openings as a formality, despite already having an internal candidate in mind for the position, so in reality there isn’t actually a position available, they do this because of company policies that require them to post job openings to the public

6. The company might have changed its hiring plans.
The company may have decided not to fill the position or the job requirements for the position may have changed. The hiring process may be on halt due to budget restrictions. Management may have changed, causing a temporary stall in hiring . An internal candidate could have been selected to fill the role. These possibilities could have been in your way to get a proper feedback

7. The hiring process can be longer than you might expect.
The company could be waiting to collect a batch of resumes before starting the interview process.

If you requested feedback and still didn’t get a response, don’t pester the hiring manager. Move on. As much as it bothers you to see that job slip away, know that there are many other amazing opportunities out there. Regardless of whether you choose to wait for an employer’s response or to try to prompt an answer yourself, it’s important to keep plugging away at your job search. You don’t want to waste time waiting to hear back from an employer who isn’t interested. Instead, keep searching until you discover the right opportunity.
